Technology & Travelling. 

Technology has significantly transformed  the way we travel. From booking flights, bus, and even accommodation online, making life a little easy, to using GPS navigation apps and smartphones. Technology has made travelling more convenient and accessible, it has also enabled us to capture and share our traveling experience through social media and stay connected with loved ones while on the go. However, I always advice the importance to balance technology with being present in the moment and be involved more in the local culture, be alive , be involved move.

Advantage of Technology & Travelling.

☆ Travel apps provide real-time information on flight, bus or train schedules, even hotel availability, local attractions and just to simplifying trip planning.

☆ GPS navigation system and map applications on smartphones like Google Maps, help us find our way in unfamiliar places, reducing the risk of getting lost , including helping with information on traffic and alternative routes .

☆ Mobile phones and internet connectivity enable us to stay in touch with loved ones and access essential information while in another city , province or being abroad .

☆ Ubers and Bolt applications offer convenient and affordable transportation. 

While technology offers many more advantages than i named in my experience when traveling, it also comes with some disadvantages.

Disadvantage of Technology & Travelling.

☆ Depending too heavily on technology can lead to a loss of spontaneity and a disconnection from the travel experience itself.

☆ Technology can be prone to glitches ,malfunctioning, or batteries that needs to be charged, which can be frustrating when you rely on it for navigation, communication, or entertainment. 

☆ The use of technology, particularly in public Wi-Fi networks, can expose us to cybersecurity risks, such as hacking and identity theft. 

☆ The need to keep devices charged can be stressful, especially if the area is experiencing loadshedding with no back up generator in South Africa. 

To make the most of technology while minimizing it's disadvantages, we should strike a balance between digital and offline experience.  Its essential to stay aware of surroundings, engage with people, cultures, and have backup plans for when technology fails or is unavailable.  Additionally, taking precautions to protect personal data and being mindful of security risks is crucial when using technology during travel.

What do I mean, by self-directed task?

Self-directed tasks refer to tasks and responsibilities that individuals undertake independently, without constant supervision or direction from others. In these tasks individuals take ownership of planning, executing, and completing the work based on their own judgement, expertise, and decision-making. Self-directed tasks could involve setting goals ,creating plans, making decisions managing time, and taking responsibility for the outcomes. It requires a high-level of autonomy, initiative, and accountability on the part of the individual.  In profession self-directed tasks are particularly common in industries where creativity, innovation, and adaptability are valued, such as technology, entrepreneurship, and research. 

You wondering if there is a difference between freelancing and self-directed tasks?, well definitely. Although the two concepts can often overlap in certain contexts , freelancing often involves taking on tasks based on clients needs, while self-directed  tasks emphasize the independence and initiative an individual displays in managing their own work, regardless of the context.

Welcome to Dimples Tech Talk .

Women have made significant contributions to the field of technology, although they have often been underrepresented.  Efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in tech continue to grow ,with initiatives mentorship programs ,and organizations aimed at supporting and empowering women in the tech industy.

Women have played key roles in the development of technology.  Numerous initiatives and organizations are dedicated to supporting women in Technology.  

Some well-known ones include:

AnitaB.org- A nonprofit that promotes gender diversity in tech through events ,scholarships and programs.

Girls Who Code- A movement to close the gender gap in technology by teaching young girls coding skills.

Women Who Tech-An organization that showcases and funds women-led tech startups.

Mentorship programs and networking opportunities are crucial for women in Technology to connect, learn ,and grow in their careers. There is also various scholarships and grants that are available to support women pursuing education and careers in Technology . These financial resources can help overcome barriers and encourage participation. 

Highlighting successful women in tech as role models, can inspire others to pursue their own careers in the field. Names like Sheryl Sandberg (COO of Facebook) , Kimberly Bryant (founder of Black Girls Code), Reshma Saujani ( Founder of Girls Who Code) , Dr. Fei-Fei Li (Co-director or Stanford's Human-Centered AI Institute) ,just a few examples of our women in tech role models out here. Encouraging girls and young women to pursue STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education from an early age can help close the gender gap in technology careers.

1.Ada Lovelace ( 1818-1852): Ada Lovelace often considered the first computer programmer. She worked with Charles Babbage on his proposed mechanical general purpose computer, the Analytical Engine in the 19th century.

Herdy Lamarr (1914-2000):  known as a Hollywood actress, Herdy Lamarr also made significant contributions to technology.  She co-invented frequency hopping spread spectrum technology, which laid the groundbreaking for morden wireless communication and the development of technologies like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. 

3. Jean E. Sammet(1928-2017): Jean Sammet was a computer scientist who worked on the development of programming languages, including FORMAC. She was also a key contribution to the development of the programming language  COBOL.

5. Grace Hopper(1906-1992): A pioneering computer scientist and U.S Navy rear admiral , Grace Hopper is credited with developing  the first compiler for a computer programming language.  She also played a key role in the development of COBOL

We choose technology for the future because it has the potential to enhance efficiency improve communication, drive innovation,and solve complex challenges across various fields leading to overall progress and development. 

Since the onset of the COVID19 pandemic,technology has undergone significant upgrades to support remote work. Video conferencing tools, collaboration platforms,cloud services and cybersecurity measures have been enhanced to ensure seamless communication,efficient teamwork and to secure data sharing for remote job environment making everything quite easy for us. 

Remote job opportunities can be extremely beneficial for several reasons. They offer flexibility in terms of working hours and location , allowing us to better balance our professional and family responsibilities. Reducing the stress of commuting and provide more quality time with our families. Remote jobs also lead to increased job satisfaction, as they enable us mothers to create a comfortable work environment that suits our needs. Additionally,remote work can help us maintain our career trajectory while still being presend for important family moments.

Let's look at some potential remote job's options included:

1. Web developer - Designing and developing websites from home.

2. Translator/Interpreter- Offering language translation or interpretation services.

3. Virtual Assistant-Providing administrative organizational,or customer support services remotely.

4. Freelance Writer- Creating content for blogs ,websites or publications.

5.Online Tutoring -Teaching subjects or skills to students via online platforms.

6. Social Media Manager- Managing social media accounts and content for businesses.
